This project seeks to gain equal marriage rights for same-gender couples in Illinois through the legislative process. Same-gender couples should be able to marry in Illinois for the same reasons any other couple wants to marry, to make a public promise in front of their friends and family to take care of each other for the rest of their lives. It is time for Illinois to stop discriminating against same-gender couples and pass Equal Marriage legislation. Not allowing same-gender couples to marry denies them and their families legal protections and perpetuates discrimination and prejudice.
We are "within striking distance" of equal marriage in Illinois. The sponsors of the equal marriage legislation are planning to call the bill for a vote in the Illinois General Assembly sometime in January 2013. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET IT PASSED!!
Please sign our online petition calling for equal marriage in Illinois. We will be delivering your petition signatures to your state legislators to show them that they have support from their constituents to vote "yes" on equal marriage.
Rick Garcia is the Director of the Equal Marriage Illinois Project.
