February 4, 2013 • Springfield, Illinois – On Tuesday, February 5, the Senate Executive Committee will hear a bill that would grant marriage equality to same-sex couples in Illinois. A similar bill passed the Senate Executive Committee on January 3.
"It is exciting that the Senate Committee will be hearing the bill so quickly,” stated Rick Garcia, Director of the Equal Marriage Illinois Project and Senior Policy Advisor for The Civil Rights Agenda, the leading and largest Illinois Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) civil rights advocacy organization. “We expect the bill to pass the committee and look forward to the full vote in the Senate next week."
Nine states and the District of Columbia recognize same-sex marriage.
