The Illinois Human Rights Act protects anyone from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. However, the workplace is one critical area where discrimination and regressive social status-quo continues to exist. The Workplace Project continues the fight to end discrimination and unfair treatment in the workplace through the following initiatives:
TCRA’s Employment Index is a rating system that applies objective criteria to determine an employer’s adherence to the Illinois Human Rights Act, fundamental civil rights and equal treatment with regard to its LGBT employees. This index gauges how an employer delivers its human resources, the treatment history of LGBT employees, and the employer’s overall attitude toward promoting civil rights and equality in the workplace.
TCRA offers diversity training to help our corporate partners follow guidelines for inclusive employment practices and progressive social understanding of the LGBT community. Additionally, this training aids employers in ensuring their compliance with the Illinois Human Rights Act.
Legal assistance to people who are victims of workplace discrimination is provided through TCRA’s Workplace Project.
Policy advocacy is a critical component to the Workplace Project. TCRA, in partnership with allied organizations and individual experts, only supports legislation that promotes equality in the workplace and advances the need for equal rights and benefits for all workers and working families.
